Berea Splits Double Header with Asbury

 

Berea (8-18), Asbury (6-18) –

BEREA, KY-

Game 1 – Berea 5, Asbury 3

In the first game of the day the Eagles got ahead in the beginning of the game by two homeruns by Day and Phillips in the first and fourth innings. Kendra Hubbard hit a homerun of her own in the bottom of the fifth inning to gain the first run for the Mountaineers. In the bottom of the sixth inning the Eagles were able to add on one more run off of two hits. In the bottom of the sixth inning the Mountaineers kicked it into gear and scored 4 runs off of hits by Spencer, Lindsey, and Howard. Howard singles up the middle to score two of the runs in this inning. The Mountaineers were able to hold off the Eagles in the top of the seventh inning and won the game five to three against the Eagles.

 

The Mountaineers were led by Hubbard who homered, followed by Spencer, Lindsey, and Howard who each had singles.

Howard gained the win in the circle.

 

Game 2 – Asbury 11, Berea 6

The Eagles started off hot in the beginning of the second game scoring three runs off of three hits in the first inning. The Eagles also added three runs off of five hits in the top of the second inning. In the bottom of the third inning the Mountaineers were able to add one run to the board. Hackney singled and advanced to second followed by Spencer moving her to third on a ground ball. Lindsey singled to left field scoring Hackney. In the bottom of the fifth inning the Mountaineers showed fight and scored three runs on two hits. Spencer singled, followed by Lindsey reaching first on a fielding error. Fallis was walked and bases were loaded when Nash doubled to right field scoring all three runners on base. The Eagles scored four runs on four hits in the top of the sixth inning gaining a significant lead over the Mountaineers. In the bottom of the sixth inning the Mountaineers scored two more runs but this was not enough to come back to win the game. The Eagles tacked one more run on in the top of the seventh inning. The Mountaineers fell to the Eagles 6-11.

Mountaineers were led by Lindsey and Winchester who had two hits each.

 

The Mountaineers are back in action Thursday, April 4th against Spalding University
