Women's Basketball Continues Winning Streak Versus Kentucky Christian University

The #6 women's basketball entered tonight's game with Kentucky Christian University riding a three game winning streak.  They also were feeling at ease as their prospects of participating in the USCAA Division I National Championship got a big shot in the arm with the release of the final poll, which saw them jump from ninth to sixth.  Add to that, the fact that they had defeated the Knights in Grayson back in December.  It was also senior night in the Seabury Center as the Mountaineers honored Johnesha Warren and Katelyn Butler before the game.  There were plenty of reason for BC to be feeling good.

The early part of the first-half was a back and forth affair between the two teams.  The Blue Crew scored on several low post opportunities, while the Knights used their long-range skill to nail several three pointers.  A Trent Milby timeout at the midway point of the half saw the Mountaineers change defensive strategies.  The impact was immediate and lethal.  From that point forward the Mountaineers full-court press kept the Knights from scoring for nearly seven minutes.  They forced repeated turnovers, two shot clock violations and several air balls from a visibly frustrated KCU.  BC would end the half on a 15-1 run to take a 38-19 lead to the locker-room.

The second half would prove to hard for the Knights to mount a comeback as Berea played a complete game on both sides of the ball. Their stout defense would continue as their offense started to get hot. The Mountaineers would shoot 54% from the field in the second half and shot 50% from the 3-point range. The Mountaineers forced 27 turnovers and collected 36 points from those errors. The smothering defense and improved offense would lead the Blue Crew to a 92-40 victory, their fourth consecutive win and 13th on the season.

The Mountaineers had three players score in double digits, lead by Warren with 23. Warren also had 6 steals, tied for the team high with Adriana Williams. Williams was the second leading scorer with 20 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Anna Loveless lead the team in rebounds with 8, while Zacchea Small and Jaime Roberts brought in 6 rebounds themselves.  Alexus Calhoun was the third player in double digits, finishing the night with 13 points.

BC will be back in action on Tuesday, February 17 when they host Lindsey Wilson University at 5:30 pm.   That game will be a part of the school's annual Green Game, to promote environmental awareness.  There will be many pre-game and halftime activities and the men's basketball team will be in action versus Alice Lloyd College following the women's game.
