Women's Basketball Concludes Regular Season with 55-45 Win At Cumberlands

The sixth-ranked women's basketball team traveled south tonight to play the Patriots of the Univeristy of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg for their third contest in three days.  On Monday, BC was upset on the road by USCAA #18 West Virginia Tech.  On Tuesday, BC stunned NAIA #16 Lindsey Wilson in Berea.  BC has only eght players on its roster and fatigue was a legitimate concern when the Blue Crew boarded the bus.

It wouldn't be a concern for long, as the Mountaineers came out and physically out matched the Patriots defensively and offensively.  BC would use its full court press and trapping half court defense to force the Patriots into 12 turnovers and grab five steals in the first half.  Offensively, BC attacked the basket relentlessly and either scored or - maybe more importantly - got fouled time after time.  The Blue Crew would convert 11 out of 13 trips to the charity stripe on their way to a 23-13 half time lead.

Coach Trent Milby is a big believer in the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' philosophy and the second half would prove that as the Patriot turnover numbers grew, as did the BC steal total, the BC free throw attempts and the score.  BC led by as many as 13 points, and would cruise home with the 55-45 win to close their regular season with a 15-9 record.

Alexus Calhoun was omnipresent tonight, scoring a game high 15 points including 9-12 from the free-throw line and grabbing 14 rebounds (also a game high).  Adriana Williams found her grove tonight scoring 13 points and leading the team with four steals.  Both Anna Loveless and Johnesha Warren fell one point short of double figures as each scored nine.

The Mountaineers have more than earned some rest before they depart for the USCAA Division I National Championships.  They will play St. Mary of the Wood (IN) on Wednesday at 11:00 am in the Uniontown, PA in their first round game.
