Women's Basketball Winning Streak Ends at Four

Williamsburg KY- Riding a four game winning streak and a huge snowfall, the women's basketball team traveled south down I-75 for their first game in a week to take on former NAIA foe the University of  the Cumberlands Patriots.

The Patriots took a 4-0 lead after scoring the first two baskets within the first few minutes of the quarter. The Mountaineers evened the score at six off of two made free throws by Kiley Barnard at the 5:08 mark before Cumberlands used a 17-2 run through the remainder of the first quarter to take a 23-8 lead. Berea began the second quarter on a 9-4 run, cutting the Patriots' lead down to 10 points, 27-17, but Cumberlands pushed their lead out again, taking  a 36-19 lead into halftime.

Going into the second half, Berea scored the first six points to cut the deficit to 11 points at the 8:28 mark off an Anna Loveless field goal. Berea was unable to cut into the lead deeper in the second half as the lead was pushed out to as many 27 points during the third quarter. Berea could not overcome the deficit they faced in the fourth quarter and the University of the Cumberlands went on to win the game, 86-48.

Freshman Kelsey Tippitt had a team high 14 points for the game, and shot 2-3 from behind the three point line. Sophomore Adriana Williams had 10 points, one assist, and two steals, while sophomore Zacchea Small led the team in rebounding with eight.  Berea shot 60% from behind the arc.

The women return to the road as they travel to Asheville, NC on Saturday, January 30th, to take on the Owls of Warren Wilson College, a USCAA opponent. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM.
