Mountaineers Crowned USA South West Division Conference Champions

Montgomery, AL/LaGrange, GA- The women's basketball team hit the road this past weekend to wrap up their regular season play.  The Mountaineers went 2-0 over the weekend and with those wins became the USA South West Division Team Champions.  The Mountaineers ended the regular season with a 21-3 overall record and a 12-2 conference record. 

In the first game against Huntingdon, the Mountaineers jumped out to an early 20-17 lead.  Berea continued to build on their lead and headed into the half with a 38-26 lead.  Huntington fought back and cut the lead down to five in the 4th quarter.  Berea was able to hang on and came out with the 68-61 win.  The Mountaineers were led by Briana Lanham with 20 points and 9 rebounds.  Nakeisha Greene added a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.  Marley Lawson also scored in the double-digits scoring 12 points and going 6-7 from the field. 

In game two of weekend action Berea took on LaGrange.  The Mountaineers came out on fire and jumped out to a 28-5 lead.  At halftime, Berea led the Panthers 48-24.  LaGrange tried to rally a comeback in the fourth but the Mountaineers shooting was too much and Berea won 86-63.  Berea shot 50.9% from the field and 50% from behind the arc.  The Mountaineers were led by Briana Lanham with 22 points.  Kiley Barnard and Adriana Williams who added 19 and 14 points. 

Berea will be back in action in the USA South Conference Tournament.  The Mountaineers enter as the #1 seed in the west division granting them a first round bye.  Berea will host the winner of the Huntingdon/Covenant game on Saturday, February 17th at 2:00pm.
