Greensboro, NC- The Berea College women's basketball team took the court in Greensboro to take on the Lions of Piedmont College in the USA South Conference Championship game. Berea tried to rally a fourth quarter comeback but fell short 69-63. In their first year in the USA South Conference Berea won the regular season West Division title and finished runner-up in the conference tournament.
Berea trailed by six after the first quarter, 19-13. The six point Lion lead grew to twelve as Berea headed to the locker room at the half 41-29. The Mountaineers outscored the Lions 18-12 in the third quarter bringing the lead down to six heading into the fourth. With less than four minutes to go in the game, the Mountaineers tied the game 55-55. A few late fouls that led to made free-throws put the Lions back on top. Piedmont held that lead and defeated the Mountaineers 69-63.
Berea was led by Zacchea Small who tallied a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Bri Lanham also recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Adriana Williams also scored in the double digits with 12 points.
