Women's Basketball Falls on the Road

Sewanee, TN. – The Berea College Women's basketball traveled down to Tennessee to open up their season against Sewanee University. The Mountaineers suffer a tough loss on the road, falling to the Tigers 81-59.

The Mountaineers got off to a slow start only scoring 12 points in the first quarter with 6 turnovers. The Tigers started rolling early racking up a quick 24 points on 56 percent shooting from the field. However, the Mountaineers locked up defensively going into the second quarter as the held Tigers to 6 points on 25 percent shooting. The Berea Women's team rallied back to take a 32-30 lead heading into the break.

To start the second half, Sewanee came out firing on all cylinders and absolutely could not miss. The Tigers stacked up 34 points in the third quarter on 76 percent shooting from the field and over 85 percent from three. The Tigers did this behind the outstanding performance from Sue Kim. Kim scored 16 of her 19 points in the third quarter alone. This proved to be too much for the Mountaineers to claw back from.

The Mountaineers fought to work their way back into the game in the fourth quarter but were unable to climb out of the third quarter deficit. Freshman Bailee Vanover lead the Mountaineers in scoring with 11 as Berea fell to 0-1 with a 81-59 loss to Sewanee.

The Mountaineers will be back in action on Saturday, November 18th at 2:00pm where they take on Pfeiffer University.
