Recap:

The Lady Mountaineers stumbled against Piedmont College on Saturday in the game that determined 1st place in the Western Division of the USA South Conference. This was the 1st conference loss for the Lady Mountaineers this year.

The Lady Mountaineers struggled out of the gate, with Piedmont College taking a 10 point lead at the end of the 1st quarter. The Lady Mountaineers struggled shooting, only shooting 25% from the field while the Lions shot 42.1% from the field.

The 2nd quarter got away from the Mountaineers again, trailing as much as 25 with 2 minutes left in the half. However, Freshmen Leah Parker was able to create a spark off the bench, scoring 8 points in the last 2 minutes of the half. Parker shot 3-4 from the field, with two of them being beyond the arc. The Mountaineers entered the half trailing the Lions by 16.

The 3rd quarter started strong for the Lady Mountaineers, cutting the lead all the way down to 9 points. However, after a couple of missed shots and fouls, the Mountaineers ended the 3rd quarter still tailing by 13 points. The Lady Mountaineers were better at shooting this quarter, shooting 40% from beyond the arc, and 31.6% from the field.

In the 4th quarter, The Lions shut down the Mountaineers to defeat the Lady Mountaineers by 24. The Lions had four players scoring in double digits and shot 39.7% from the field.

The Lady Mountaineers struggled against on the road against The Lions. They ended up shooting only 21.1% from the field and 19.4% from the field. The Mountaineers were led by Freshmen Leah Parker and Junior Bethanie Williams, both with 10 points.

 

The Lady Mountaineers will be back in action against Maryville College, Sunday, January 13th at Maryville.
