The Mountaineers fall to Huntingdon College during last regular season game

Records: Berea (20-5, 14-2) Huntingdon (20-4, 13-3)

 

The Mountaineers hosted opponent Huntingdon College Saturday afternoon for their last regular season game of the year. The Mountaineers were not able to continue their win streak as they fell to the Hawks 73-66.

The game was back and forth between the Mountaineers and Hawks until the end of the 1st quarter when the Mountaineers had a series of turnovers which led to the Hawks leading the game 17-11 to end the quarter. During the second quarter Berea was able to make a comeback and lead the game when Kristen Barnes hit a 3 to push the Mountaineers ahead. This lead did not last long as Huntingdon was able to come back and take the lead 29-22 into half time.

During the third quarter the Hawks pushed their lead over the Mountaineers. At the end of the third quarter the Mountaineers were down 13 points. In the fourth quarter the Mountaineers were not done fighting. After a jumper from Bethany Williams and a free throw from Briana Lanham, the Mountaineers were back within 6 points of the Hawks. The Mountaineers fought until the end of the game, but the Hawks ended up winning the conference game.

Briana Lanham led the Mountaineers with 16 points followed by Bethany Williams who scored 14 points. Isis Hill and Williams both had 7 rebounds during the game.

The Mountaineers are back in action Saturday February 16th at Berea College at 2pm where they will be playing in the USA South Conference Tournament
