Mountaineers Dominate in Homecoming Game

BEREA, KY. – Berea College women's basketball team defeated Campbellsville University-Harrodsburg on homecoming night 96-59 at the Seabury Center.

The Mountaineers (3-0) showed dominance in all phases of the game, out-shooting, out-rebounding, and out-playing them in all facets of the game. The Mountaineers shot 47.9% from the field, a drastic improvement from the previous game where they only shot 31%. The Mountaineers continued their dominance on the board, out-rebounding the Pioneers 60-28 and scoring 34 second chance points. The Mountaineers again shot above 70% from the free throw line as well (73.5%).

Freshman guard Aaliyah Hampton (Hopkinsville, KY), had a game high 30 points in 27 minutes, going 10-12 from the field and 10-10 from the free throw line. Hampton also added 4 steals and 3 assists. Freshman guard Destiny Combs (Louisville, KY), also had a career high 19 points in this game, also adding 9 rebounds. Senior forward Nakeisha Greene (Lexington, KY), earned her 750th career rebound with her 7th rebound in the game, and ended with 10 rebounds in the game.

Both Oriona Woods and E'moni Washington led the Pioneers with 14 points each. The Mountaineers' defense stifled the high-pace Pioneers' offense, limiting them to only 30% from the field, while also causing 22 turnovers.

The Mountaineers came out of the gate firing, scoring 27 points in the 1st quarter, and 55 points in the first half, their highest in a half in over a year. The Mountaineers defense also continued to show their dominance, not allowing an opponent score more than 60 points in the game again. With 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter, the Mountaineers only allowed 2 points in the quarter.

Up next, the Mountaineers will host #16 Transylvania University Tuesday (Nov. 19). Tipoff is slated for 7:00 pm at the Roland Wierwille Court.
