BEREA, KY- A quick turnaround for the Mountaineers did not slow them down as the Mountaineers in back-to-back days were able to get another impressive win, this time against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 71-30, who were voted 3rd in the Heartland Athletic Conference preseason.
The Mountaineers dominated the game on all aspects, leading in every statistical category. The Mountaineers shot 39.4% from the field, out-scoring the Engineers 36-14 in the paint. The Mountaineers were also 31% from beyond the arc. The Mountaineers also again showed their dominance on the board, out-rebounding the Engineers 50-38 and also adding in 28 forced turnovers. Rose-Hulman were stifled by the Mountaineers defense, only shooting 18.8% from the field and a dismal 7.7% from beyond the arc.
The Mountaineers were again led by Freshman guard Aaliyah Hampton (Hopkinsville, KY), who had a game-high 18 points and added 7 rebounds. Hampton shot 8-15 from the field and added a free throw and a 3-pointer. Close behind Hampton was sophomore Bailee Vanover (Richmond, KY), who scored 13 points and added 6 assists. Vanover shot 5-12 from the field and added 2 shots from beyond the arc. Both senior Nakeisha Greene and Destanie Love added 7 boards.
Both Hannah Woody and Nosa Igiehon for the Engineers led the team in scoring with 7 points. Igieon added 8 rebounds and shot 2-4 from the field and 3-6 from the free-throw line.
The Mountaineers took the lead early and never looked back, holding the lead for the entirety of the game. The Mountaineers' biggest lead was up to 42 during the 4th quarter, which saw Rose-Hulman score 1 point.
Up next, the Mountaineers will travel down the Birmingham, AL to play Birmingham-Southern in an out of conference match-up.
