Mountaineers Stumble on the Road

Birmingham, AL- The Mountaineers stumbled on the road against Birmingham-Southern, losing 76-66.

The Mountaineers played a close-fought game against the Panthers, but were unable to stop the Panthers from getting to the free-throw line, allowing them to take 34 shots from the charity stripe, converting 22 of them. The Mountaineers out-rebounded the Panthers 34-31, had less turnovers 16-14, and had more 2nd chance points 9-7, but were able to close the gap on the score-line.

The Mountaineers were again led by freshman guard Aaliyah Hampton (Hopkinsville, KY), who continues her strong play with a team-high 22 points. Hampton also added 3 steals and 2 assists to go with her 22 points. Behind Hampton was senior Bethanie Williams (Cosby, TN), who had 9 points and 4 rebounds. Williams shot 3-9 from the field and 1-4 from beyond the arc. Senior Nakeisha Greene added 6 more rebounds, continuing her quest to catching the program's rebounding record.

The Panthers were led by forward Emilee Olsen, who had 27 points to go with 9 rebounds. Olsen went 8-9 from the field and added 11 free throws on 16 attempts. Behind Olsen was Derienne Black, who notched a double-double with 20-points and 11 rebounds.

The Mountaineers fought back and forth with the Panthers at the beginning of the game but were unable to take the lead again in the game after the first half. The Mountaineers brought the game down to a 6 point game with 1:30 to play but were able to convert a couple of shots beyond the arc.

Up next, the Mountaineers will continue to be on the road against Campbellsville-Harrodsburg Wednesday, December 4th. Tipoff is slated for 6:00 pm.
