Mountaineers Rout Scotties on the Road

DECATUR, GA— After a lengthy break, the Mountaineers bounced back from a loss in their previous game by defeating Agnes Scott College on the road 81-44 in their first conference game of the season.

The Mountaineers defense dominated the game, causing 30 turnovers in the game and converting those turnovers for 36 points. The Mountaineers shot 33.7% from the field and 34.4% from beyond the arc. The Mountaineers dominated on the glass, out-rebounding the Scotties 56-33 and scoring 30 points in the paint. The Scotties shot 34% from the field, but were only able shoot the ball 47 times, limiting their chances to score.

The Mountaineers were led by freshman guard Aaliyah Hampton (Hopkisville, KY), who had a game high 15 points. Hampton shot 5-16 from the field and went 4-6 from the free throw line. Bri Lanham (Berea, KY), had her first double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and collecting a game-high 14 rebounds. Lanham shot 5-14 from the field, including 3-9 from beyond the arc. 11 of her 14 rebounds came on the offensive side of the court.

The Scotties were led by Emma Olsen with 10 points and 6 rebounds. Olsen shot 4-11 from the field including 1-1 from beyond the arc. Annie Weimerskirch was closely behind Olsen with 9 points with two 3-pointers made.

The Mountaineers led the whole game, starting the game out in a 12-0 run. The Scotties were able to cut the led down to 7 in the 2nd quarter but the Mountaineers went into another gear and never looked back, leading as much as 40 in the game.

Up next, the Mountaineers will host Brevard College (Dec. 14) at the Seabury Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
