Berea Loses Weather Delayed Game Against Centre College

Berea, KY- The women's soccer team returned to the Berea College Sports Complex this evening. In a game which saw a nearly two hour weather delay due to lightning, the Mountaineers welcomed the Colonels of Centre College to the pitch for a 90 minute game.

Centre came out of the gates firing as Berea's offense looked to find its rhythm to notch a goal on the scoreboard. As the Mountaineers searched for answers to break the Colonels' defense, the visitors took a 1-0 lead at the 11:41 mark. The 15th minute saw the deficit Berea faced change to two as a second goal for Centre gave them a 2-0 lead. The struggle on offense for the Mountaineers continued as the visiting Colonels scored four more goals before the end of the first half to go ahead 6-0.

As the half was ending, lightning was seen in the area, which caused a nearly two hour delay. Once the teams were able to get back onto the field as the lightning left the vicinity, the momentum stayed on the side of Centre. A goal two minutes into the second half changed the scoreboard to 7-0 in favor of the Colonels and the visitors added two more goals to their tally to win the game by a final score of 9-0. Goalkeeper Amber Follin finished with 9 saves on 18 shots on goal.

Berea stays at home for their next game as they play a divisional opponent from the USA South conference. Huntingdon College comes to the Berea College Sports Complex for a 12:00 PM kickoff on Saturday.
