Mountaineers shutout Highlanders, 2-0

The Berea women's soccer team traveled to MacMurray College Saturday afternoon. The Mountaineers defeated the Highlanders 2-0 with a goal from Sohara Perez and a MacMurray own goal in the second half.

During the first 45 minutes, Berea kept the Highlanders on their own side of the field for the majority of the half. MacMurray goalie Emma Harris was able to keep Berea off the scoreboard by making eight saves. The teams headed into the locker rooms with a 0-0 score. The Mountaineers took 14 shots on the Highlanders compared to MacMurray's one.

In the second half, Berea had nine shots with two striking the back of the net for the Mountaineers. The Highlanders had some bad luck at the 56:17 minute mark, when an own goal put Berea ahead. At the 81:12, Perez scored her second goal of the season, unassisted, to give the Mountaineers some cushion in the closing minutes. Berea dominated the rest of the game and defeated the Highlanders with a 2-0 victory.

Amber Follin stopped two to preserve the shutout. The Mountaineers outshot MacMurray 23-5 and finished with a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
