Mountaineers run over Beavers, 7-1

The Berea women's soccer team traveled to Blackburn College Sunday to close out their four game skid during opening week. The Mountaineers defeated the Beavers 7-1 with goals from Madilyn Hord, Sohara Perez, Stefany Reyes, Bailee Vanover, Rebecca Schmidt, and Glendy Pineda. Berea goalie Amber Follin finished with two saves for victory.

In the first half, Berea stayed on the attack against the Beavers. Madilyn Hord started off the Mountaineers' scoring outbreak with a goal at the 12:48 minute mark. Following closely behind was Sohara Perez and Stefany Reyes with goals at 16:52 and 37:49. The Mountaineers had 18 shots to Blackburn's one at the end of the half with the 3-0 score.

Less than a minute into the second half, Bailee Vanover scored a goal with an assist from Madilyn Hord. The Mountaineers' offense continued to roll with three more goals added from Rebecca Schmidt, Madilyn Hord, and Glendy Pineda. Seven straight goals from Berea helped to lift the Mountaineers over the Beavers 7-1.

Hord compiled two goals and an assist, while Vanover added one goal and two assists to her stat line. Perez contributed a goal and an assist to round out the top point getters for the Mountaineers.

Berea outshot Blackburn 38-6 and had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
