Midway, KY- The Berea women's soccer team traveled to Midway, Kentucky on Saturday to play Midway University. The Mountaineers had a slow start against the Eagles, which put them at a disadvantage against their opponents early. Because of this sluggish start, they lost the second game of the season 5-2.

 

Berea started the game slow out of the gate, which allowed Midway to get an early goal at the 1:35 mark by Brynn Bradley. Berea tried to get back on their feet and fend off their opponents after the first goal, but at the 8:03 minute mark, in the midst of trying to get the ball out of the box Berea knocked the ball into their own goal to make it 2-0. The Mountaineers picked up the pace later in the half and at the 27:15 minute mark, with a goal from sophomore Bailee Vanover. The half ended 2-1, with Midway in the lead.

 

In the second half, the Mountaineers were slow to start off again and at the 46:40 minute mark, the Eagles scored another goal by Regan Snyder, assisted by Alexis Little. However, the Mountaineers put another one in the net soon after on a corner kick from Sierra Massucco and scored by Bailee Vanover to make the score 3-2. After a hard fought battle back and forth, the Eagles had two breakaways and scored two more goals. At the 74:07 minute Brynn Bradley scored with an assist from Regan Snyder and at the 88:26 minute mark Madyson Tipton scored with an assist from both Marissa Sauer and Larissa Cussins. The second half ended in a victory for the Eagles, 5-2.

 

Berea's Jade Fulkerson had five saves, and Midway's Rebekah McKee had four.

 

Midway had 28 shots versus Berea's 12, and Midway had a 4-3 advantage on corner kicks.

 

Up next, the Mountaineers will be traveling to Danville, KY to take on Centre College on Wednesday, September 11 at 7pm.
