Berea Falls to Spalding on the Road

Jeffersonville, IN- The Berea women's soccer team traveled to Indiana on Saturday to take on Spalding University. The Mountaineers started out strong against the Golden Eagles, but fell short towards the end of the game with the final score 3-2 for Spalding.

 

At the start of the half, Berea immediately took action against their opponents. They dominated the field in the early minutes of the game. By the 9:35 minute mark, Glendy Pineda scored the first goal for the Mountaineers. Berea still kept Spalding on their toes up until the 27:38  minute mark when Spalding's Abby McGimsey scored, tying the game 1-1. The teams continued battling for the remainder of the half, but no other goals were scored.

 

In the second half, the Golden Eagles scored an early goal at the 50:08 minute mark by Kendall Brown, extending their lead against the Mountaineers. At the 67:29 minute mark, Glendy Pineda scored another goal assisted by Bailee Vanover, which tied the game back up at 2-2. Neither side would give up in this game. However, at the 76:01 minute mark, Spalding's Hannah Watson scored the third goal for the Golden Eagles on a break-away. The Mountaineers did not give up and kept pushing the offense forward, but were unable to score in the final minutes to push the game to overtime. The half ended with a tough loss against Spalding University 3-2.

 

Berea's Samantha Martin and Jade Fulkerson both had three saves, and Spalding's Kayla Strehle had five.

 

Spalding had 20 shots versus Berea's 9, and Spalding had a 5-1 advantage on corner kicks.

 

Up next, the Mountaineers will be hosting Kentucky Wesleyan on Sunday, September 15th at 4pm.
