Berea Drops Game against KWC

Berea, KY- The Berea women's soccer team hosted Kentucky Wesleyan on Sunday for their second home game of the season. Unfortunately, the Mountaineers were unable to get their first home win of the season, losing to KWC 6-1.

 

Berea started strong against their opponents at the beginning of the game. However, on a through ball, Madisyn Hunt scored at the 3:26 minute mark for Kentucky Wesleyan. The Mountaineers soon responded with a goal of their own at the 9:06 minute mark by Madilyn Hord, assisted by Alanis Daugherty, tying up the game 1-1. The Panthers kept the Mountaineers on their toes for the rest of the half. Madisyn Hunt scored again at the 17:21 minute mark, assisted by Maddie Kennedy, and at the 19:08 minute mark, assisted by Madeline Clements. This put KY Wesleyan up 3-1 against Berea. Madisyn Hunt scored two more goals at the 25:11 and the 26:21 minute marks, both assisted by Erica Zetter. This pushed their lead to 5-1 against Berea. For the rest of the half, the Mountaineers defended the goal and allowed no more goals. The half ended 5-1.

 

In the second half, the Mountaineers started out strong against the Panthers. They shut-down Kentucky Wesleyan's potent offense, all while dominating their opponents half of the field for a majority of the half. The Mountaineers kept this intensity throughout the entire half. However, at the 80:28 minute mark, Erica Zetter scored with an assist from Sarah Halema, making the score 6-1. The Mountaineers fought for the remainder of the half, but were unable to score.

 

Berea's Jade Fulkerson had 13 saves, and Kentucky Wesleyan's Taylor Rentchler had 3.

 

KWC had 31 shots versus Berea's 7, and KWC had a 4-3 advantage on corner kicks.
