Berea, KY- Berea hosted Transylvania University Friday, September 27 with hopes of bringing home another win for their season. Despite the great efforts by the Mountaineers, they were unable to beat their opponents and lost 5-0.
In the first half, Transylvania scored an early goal at the 4:16 minute mark by Meaghan Curren, giving Transy an early lead against Berea 1-0. The Mountaineers picked up the pace right away against the Pioneers. They dominated the field and kept the ball off of their opponents feet for a while up until the 24:35 minute mark, where Pioneers' Meron Roach scored the second goal for their team with an assist from Brooke Puterbaugh. Being down 2-0, Berea increased the intensity and kept the ball on their opponents half of the field for the remainder of the half. The half ended with Transylvania leading 2-0.
In the second half Berea started out strong, keeping the ball away from Transylvania. The Mountaineers took several shots on goal, but were unable to score. At the 59:20 minute mark, Transylvania's Brett Edwards snuck in another goal against Berea with help from Emily Payne, extending their lead 3-0. At the 61:02 minute mark, Transylvania's Meron Roach scored the fourth goal against the Mountaineers with an assist from Morgan Fowler. Berea tried to slow them down, but were unable to and at the 66:52 minute mark Cassandra Thomas scored the fifth goal for Transylvania off of a cross into the box. The Mountaineers stepped up and prevented any more goals for another period within the second half. However at the 80:46 minute mark, Brett Edwards scored the sixth goal for Transylvania with an assist from Abby Baker. The half ended with a win for the Pioneers 6-0.
Berea's Jade Fulkerson had five saves, and Transylvania's Sloan Cromwell had one and Morgan Patton had two.
Transylvania had 25 shots versus Berea's 11, and Transylvania had a 7-1 advantage on corner kicks.
Up next, the Mountaineers will be hosting their first conference match against Huntingdon Saturday, September 28 at 3pm.
