Berea, KY- On Saturday, October 19 the Mountaineers hosted Brevard College for a conference game and their final home game of the season. Both teams competed with everything they had in order to win this game, but unfortunately, Brevard stole the home win for Berea 2-0.
In the first half, Berea started off strong against their opponents. Trying to shut down the Tornadoes before they had any scoring opportunities. However, at the 8:46 minute mark, Brevard's Alyssa Hetherington was able to score a quick goal against Berea. For the remainder of the half, the Mountaineers tried to tie up the game before time ran out. They took several shots on goal, but they were unable to find the back of the net and the first half ended with Brevard in the lead 1-0.
In the second half, the Mountaineers came out fast and strong to put the game back in their favor. They fought back and forth with their opponents, denying their opportunities all the while creating some of their own. Neither side was giving in to the other, and Berea still down by one tried their best to change it. Even though the Mountaineers were close at evening out the score, at the 75:38 minute mark, Brevard's Ashley Royster scored another goal for her team with an assist from Alyssa Hetherington. This made it more difficult for Berea to catch up and beat their opponents, but they did not give up. Brevard took home a conference win against Berea 2-0.
Berea's Jade Fulkerson had 4 saves, and Brevard's Rebeccah Rojas had 5.
Both teams had 12 shots, and Brevard had a 4-1 advantage on corner kicks.
Up next, the Mountaineers will be traveling to compete against Agnes Scott on Saturday, October 26 at 2pm for their final game of the regular season.
