Women's Tennis Swept in Season Opener

Women's Tennis Swept in Season Opener

After two rain outs and a delayed starting time, the Berea College Women's Tennis team finally got on the court on Saturday, traveling through the mountains to take on the University of Virginia - Wise.

The day didn't go as planned as the Cavaliers proved to be inhospitable hosts and swept the Mountaineers 9-0.  The score was not indicative of how the women of Berea actually performed.

The No. 2 doubles tandem of Christine Crawford (JR/Louisville, KY) and Miranda Fawley (SR/Blanchester, OH) played toe to toe versus their Division II opponents before falling on a late break, 8-6.  Both No. 1 (Taylor Moyers (SO/Middlesboro, KY)) and No. 2 (Christine Crawford) singles matches went in the same fashion with the Mountaineers dropping the first sets 6-2, before regrouping and staging an awesome comeback before falling 7-5 in the second and would be deciding sets.

The Blue crew will next be in action on September 25th when they host another NCAA Division II opponent in Oakland City University at 5:00 pm at the Wilson Evans Tennis Complex.
