Berea College Women's Tennis 2014 Season Preview

Coach Allen Jackson previews the upcoming women's tennis season.

Fresh off the women's tennis programs first winning season, Coach Allen Jackson is looking forward to the 2014-2015 season and moving the program forward.  The Mountaineers finished the 2013-2014 season with an 8-8 record, highlighted by road wins versus National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II opponent Kentucky Wesleyan and a clean 9-0 sweep over Carlow University and a Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) Tournament victory over Midway College.  Coach Jackson is looking for big and better things from his charges.

The tennis team is losing two experienced players in Katherine Spears and Kaila Noland.  To replace that experience, Coach Jackson is looking for All-Conference selections junior Christine Crawford and sophomore Taylor Moyers to lead the way for a young, but talented team.  Incoming  players Bria Williams, Alicia Bedollah, along with Katherine and Elizabeth Heller will look to carry on the program's upward trend.  The Heller's are twin sisters and represent the second set of sisters on the tennis squad, along with Katie and Miranda Fawley.

Coach Jackson will be joined on the sidelines this season by James Montgomery, who will be serving as the Berea College Assistant Coach.  The schedule ahead of the Mountaineers will be challenging as they face three NCAA Division II opponents: Oakland City University (twice), The University of Virginia's College at Wise and Kentucky Wesleyan College and two NCAA Division III opponents: College of Mount Saint Joseph and Thomas More College. The first opportunity to see the team in action happens September 7 at 1:00 PM against Oakland City University at the Wilson Evans Tennis Complex.
