Midway/Berea, KY - In the last little bit of sweltering summer heat, the Mountaineers took on two opponents this weekend- on the road against Asbury on Saturday and at home against Virginia Wise on Sunday. It is never ideal to start out the season back to back, but Berea used this opportunity as an advantage to find out what their strengths were and what they still needed to work on in the next few weeks.
On Saturday, Kristol Whitt did not play in singles putting the team at a disadvantage against the talented Asbury team . But in doubles, despite the score, Christine Gilbert Crawford and Alicia Bedollah did very well since this was their first time playing together.
The team already improved by playing better on Sunday than they did on Saturday.
"It was a fun weekend a great experience as a first match as head coach," said new head coach James Montgomery. "We have a lot of room to go into the next couple of weeks. Now we know what to work on."
Berea will play at home again on Wednesday, September 9 against Mount St. Joseph at 7:00 PM.
