Women’s Tennis Splits Matches Over the Weekend

Richmond, IN – The Berea women's tennis team was able to knock off Earlham with a 6-3 victory on Saturday afternoon, which came after an earlier loss to Franklin College, 9-0.

In the match against Earlham, the teams decided to play pro sets and lead off with singles based on a threatening weather forecast. This proved to be no issue for Berea. In singles play, the matches were split after Coach Montgomery decided to sit Taylor Moyers due to a sore knee. Heading into doubles competition, Berea knew they had to step up in order to come out on top. After dodging the rain, No. 3 doubles pulled out an 8-2 win, followed by a win by the No. 2 team, which clinched the match for Berea. Not long after, the No. 1 team of Taylor Moyers and Kristol Whitt captured an 8-4 win, bringing the final score to 6-3. "They found a way to gut out the victory," said head coach James Montgomery. "That shows me that we're maturing as a team."
 

Earlier in the day, Berea fell 9-0 to Franklin College, which is one of the best teams in the Heartland Conference. The Berea doubles teams played especially well, challenging Franklin, but unfortunately, they were unable to grab a win.

The Berea women's tennis team will return to action in Hanover, IN on Sunday, October 11th at 2:00 p.m where they will face Hanover and again at 5:00 PM where they will take on Defiance.
