Berea College Women's Tennis team took to the road for their first two away matches, and lost a heartbreaker to Defiance College 5-4 and then took a stinging loss 9-0 by Hanover College.
In the first match up of the day between Berea and Defiance, the stage was set for a major battle. The doubles began with Berea number 1 seeds Taylor Moyers and Trinity Goodman following their fine start to the season with another convincing 8-0 win. Following them, Berea's number 2 team of Alicia Bedolla and Ashley Ferrell gave the second point of the day with a solid 8-4 win. At number 3 doubles, Bria Williams and Deshontanae Davis came up short losing a tight battle 8-4.
Singles play began and number two Trinity Goodman raced out ahead of her opponent defeating her 6-1, 6-2. Number 1 Taylor Moyers, struggled to find her rhythm in the first set but came back powering her opponent off the court to win 2-6, 6-2, 6-1. At number 5 and 6 Bria Williams and Deshontanae Davis lost their matches after good effort. At this stage Berea was ahead 4-3, looking to number 3 Alicia Bedolla and 4 Ashley Ferrell for one more win. Both matches went the absolute distance and after over two hours of play both ladies lost heartbreaking third sets, which gave Defiance the win to overall edge Berea Colle 5-4.
Next up was Hanover College, who after defeating Defiance earlier in the day used their depth of players to defeat an exhausted Berea Women's Team 9-0. The doubles started out and Taylor Moyers and Trinity Goodman received their first loss of the season as a pair going down 8-1 to the fresh and experiences number 1 Hanover team. Number 2 and 3 doubles team also picked up two tough losses to Hanover's women.
In singles play, Hanover got the best of Berea Women's sweeping all 6 singles matches despite a strong effort for Trinity Goodman and Taylor Moyers. Berea College Women, fall to 1-3 for the season and look to rebound in their next road match against Indiana University South-East on Saturday, September 17th, 2016 at 11am.
