Richmond, KY- As the 2016-2017 season came to an end, it also meant it was time to say goodbye to graduating seniors, #1 Taylor Moyers, #2 Trinity Goodman and Bria Williams. All three ladies have been members of the tennis team for the entire Academic time at Berea College.
The Women's Team turned in a 5-9 record for the year with some very great matches in there. Led all season by Taylor Moyers and Trinity Good at #1 and #2 respectively, Berea's Women were very competitive. Taylor and Trinity played in 13 out of 14 doubles matches for the season at the #1 position. In those 13 matches, they had 8 wins and 5 losses. In those 5 of those losses saw great competition just edged out by competitors more seasoned in doubles. However, both Ladies were a force on the doubles court in the Fall where they played the majority of matches going 8-3.
In singles, Taylor Moyers at number 1 represented Berea College really well, also turning out a winning individual record at 8 wins and 5 losses. Taylor was involved this season, in some epic battles at the number 1 seed, often coming back from a set down to defeat her opponent or clearly defeating her opponent in straight sets barely losing games. Her losses in singles action, show the level of competition at the women's level as she competed well but was outplayed in those 5 matches. Taylor has been the Captain of the women's team this year and has done a great job motivating and encouraging the Women to fight for every point and match.
Trinity Goodman, held on extremely firm at the number 2 spot, also turning in a winning record for the season, managing to finish with 10 wins and 3 losses in singles action. Trinity is the epitome of what it means to be a fighter on the court as she absolutely never gives up. She has turned the most matches around this season coming from a set down, where she seemed to start slowly but used her experience and talents to often power her way through the remainder of the matches. Her only losses in singles action comes from Indiana University Southeast, Hanover College and Thomas More College. She was also on full display in her last match of the season ending with a huge win over Union's number 2 woman.
As Taylor, Trinity and Bria move on to their very bright futures, the women's team is already looking to next season where they enter their first year in the USAA Conference, for Division 3 tennis. Returning to the team as many faces such as Alicia Bedolla, Ashley Ferrell, and newcomers Erin Goodpaster, Deshontanae Davis, Marah Zeidan and Shelby Plas. The women look to build on a positive season and make even greater strides in the 2017-2018 season.
