LEXINGTON, KY- The Berea College women's track and field team competed at the Pioneer Invitational hosted by Transylvania University this weekend. The ladies had great success on and off the track, placing 9th overall as a team.
In the field, the lady Mountaineer throwers brought in the heat. Amber "Bre" Sims earned a 2nd place finish in the javelin with a personal best throw of 37.16m. Kayla Santos followed with a throw of 28.68m with a 4th place finish. LeAnna Luney brought home a 10th place finish with a throw of 25.72m. Luney also earned 10th place in the hammer throw with a distance of 31.22m.
The heat continued on the track as well. The women's 4x100m relay team of Megan Hale, Grace Callow, Rebecca Dixson and Cassandra McFadden finished 5th overall. McFadden then took 9th place in the 100m dash with time of 13.24. She was followed by teammate Rebecca Dixon who ran a time of 13.43, earning 11th place. Dixon also ran a great 200m finishing 13th with a time of 27.70. Annah Pierce earned 4th place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:15.32.
The distance squad continued the trend of top finishers. In the 800m, Senior Layne Callow brought home 2nd place with a time of 2:23.13. Sophomore Erin Gonterman came in shortly after with a time of 2:31.83 and a 6th place finish. Megan Hale then earned a 14th place finish with a time and PR of 2:38.55. Callow also placed among the top finishers in the 1500m, earning 6th place with a time of 5:02.40. Gonterman followed behind with an 8th place finish and a time of 5:04.60.
The 4x400m team of Layne Callow, Grace Callow, Rebecca Dixon and Bre Sims ended the meet on a high note with a 4th place finish and a time of 4:17.26.
Look forward to more top finishers this weekend as the Mountaineers will travel to Danville, KY for the Centre Invitational.
