Berea Kicks off the Outdoor Season at the Lenoir-Rhyne Southside Power & Fitness Invitational

HICKORY, NC- This weekend The Berea college women's track team kicked off their outdoor seasons at the 2017 Lenoir-Rhyne Southside Power & Fitness Invitational. The first outdoor meet of the season shows that Berea College women have a lot to offer in the coming months!

Berea College earned 8th place out of 12 teams and had many high place finishers. Ivanna Sabino and Megan Hale were the first women to earn points for Berea in the 3000 meter Steeplechase. Freshman Ivanna Sabino placed 2nd with a time of 12:45, earning 8 points while senior Megan Hale finished 4th place and ran 13:28, earning 5 points.

Berea College had two relay teams who placed. The 4x100 team who consisted of Alli Silas, Cassie McFadden, Kaylee Robinson, and Kierra Moore ran a time of 52.14 and placed 4th. The 4x400 relay team of Alli Silas, Delaney Williams, Megan Hale and Jenna Hughes ran a time of 4:31 and placed 6th.

Other high placers for Berea College include sophomore Jenna Hughes who placed 7th in the 1500 meter, with a time of 5:15. Followed closely behind her was freshman Delaney Williams, in 8th place also running 5:15. Senior Annah Pierce placed 8th in the 100 meter hurdles and ran 18.04. Berea College showed out in the women's 100 meter dash, finishing 7th, 8th, and 9th. Freshman Kaylee Robinson ran 13.06, followed by junior Cassie McFadden who ran 13.13, and sophomore Kierra Moore. Delaney Williams had another great race in the 400 hurdles placing 8th and running a time of 1:11.

Finally, we had 5 runners who ran in the 5,000 meter. Winning the race was sophomore Dove DeNigris with a time of 18:59. Junior Erin Gonterman finished in 6th place with a time of 20:12, senior Gabriella Sabino in 8th place running 20:32. Following them was Sydney Kyker 21:25, Hayley Clark 21:44 and Caitlyn Roberts 22:23.

The women's team will travel to Transylvania University on Saturday March 25th to compete in the Transy Pioneer Invitational.
