Mountaineers Battle Cold Rainy Conditions at the Bellarmine Invitational.

LOUISVILLE, KY- The Berea College's Women's Track and Field team are starting to wrap up their 2016-17 outdoor season, this weekend they traveled to the Bellarmine University 2017 Classic in Louisville, Kentucky this past Saturday, April 21st. With some steep NCAA Division II teams, there was no shortage of tough competition to bring out some of the fastest times of the year. Personal records (PRs) will be indicated with (*) next to the performance time of each athlete.

The women's distance team had a strong showing. The morning started off with the 3000m steeplechase which saw 3 Berea women place 5th, 6th, and 9th overall. Junior Erin Gonterman (12:23.88)*, freshman Ivanna Sabino (12:30.22)*, and senior Megan Hale (12:54.53)*. In mid-distance events, freshman Jamie Welch placed 6th in the 1500 with a time of 4:50.41* just missing the school record of 4:49.75. Dove DeNigris (5:02.69), Delaney Williams (5:11.10) and Stefany Reyes (5:39.04) also grabbed PR's in the 1500. As for the 800m run,  Freshman Delaney Williams (2:36.45) led the women with an 8th place finish followed closely by Asia Foster  who finished 10th with a time of 2:40.32*.

Sprints also had its fair share of performances. Freshman Alli Silas had three impressive races, all of which were individual events. Silas finished 8th in the 400m dash (1:06.04)*, 12th in the 100m dash (14.00), and 15th in the 200m dash (29.45). Sophomore Kierra Moore led the women in the 200 with her 7th place finish and time of 27.62. Senior Annah Pierce secured 6th place in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.20. Moore (4.68m) and Pierce (4.64m) placed 9th and 10th in the long jump. Another freshman gaining ground on the track is Allison Dallman, who locked in 2nd place in the high jump with a final height of 1.55m.

These final performances have concluded the official 2017 season for the mountaineer women, however, next week, certain qualifiers among the team's top performers will be able to continue competition post-season at the Redhawk Invitational at Miami University in Ohio.
