Relay Record Falls at 49er Classic

Charlotte NC- This weekend the Berea College Women's Track and Field team kicked off their 2018 outdoor season at the 49er Classic hosted by the University of Charlotte. In one of the most competitive meets that Berea has competed in, consisting of teams from D1, D2, D3, and NAIA divisions, many personal records were hit as well as a school record.

On Friday night, sophomore Kaylee Robinson competed in the 400m dash, running a 59.97. This time comes close to breaking a personal record and her own school record. Following, senior Erin Gonterman and sophomore Ivanna Sabino competed in the 3000 meter steeplechase finishing 20th and 21st. Gonterman ran a time of 13:05, followed by Sabino with 13:12. In the 1500 meter dash, junior Jenna Hughes ran a time 5:27. Closing on Friday night, we had 4 women compete in the 5000 meter run, 2 whom broke the 19:00 mark. Sophomore Delaney Williams ran her personal best time by over a minute and finished with a time of 18:58. Following closely behind, junior Dove DeNigris finished with a time of 18:59. Freshman Abby Schlenker ran the 5000 meter race in a time of 19:18. Sophomore Hayley Clark finished the race in 20:17.

On Saturday, the Mountaineers began with a new school record time for the 4x100 meter relay.  The team consisted of senior Kierra Moore, senior Cassie McFadden, freshman, Khatriah Malik, and Sophomore Kaylee Robinson. The new school record time is 49.54. In the 800 meter run, Delaney Williams tied her personal record of 2:26. Jenna Hughes also competed, running a 2:32. Kierra Moore finished out her day running 27.8 in the 200 meter. Sophomore Ivanna Sabino also ran the 3000 meter, competing with her time of 11:32. Sophomore Allison Dallman competed in high jump and jumped 1.58 meters. The women's 4x800 meter team of Tylan Eastham, Sydney Shackelford, Brittany Ortiz and Caitlyn Roberts ran a time of 11:32.  In the last event for the day, our 4x400 meter team ran a time of 4:14.01. Team members were sophomore Kaylee Robinson, freshman Destinee Henery, freshman Sydney Coleman, and sophomore Ali Silas.

The women's team will travel to Transylvania University on Saturday March 24th to compete in the Transy Pioneer Invitational.
