Berea Finishes Fifth at Centre Twilight

Danville, KY - This Friday, the Mountaineers competed at Centre College's annual Centre Twilight meet. The women placed 5rd out of 12 very competitive teams from the area.

The first event on the track was the 3000 meter steeplechase where we had a 1-2-3 finish, earning the women 24 points. Sophomore Delaney Williams led the race running a 12:26. Following her, sophomore Ivanna Sabino finished 2nd in 12:41 and senior Erin Gonterman finishing 3rd in 12:45. In the 4x100 meter relay, the team ran 49.25 and ended in 2nd place. These women consisted of sophomore Alli Silas, freshman Khatriah Malik, sophomore Kaylee Robinson, and senior Cassandra McFadden. Freshman Abigail Schlenker competed in the 1500 meter dash, and ended in 5th place, at 4:55. Junior Jenna Hughes came across the line at 5:28 with a 15th place finish. Other finishers for Berea include freshman Tylan Eastham (5:34), Sydney Shackelford (6:18), Brittany Ortiz-Perez (6:23).

In the 100 meter hurdles, Kearstin Tingle ran 19.97 seconds, finishing in 16th place. Next, in the 400 meter dash, sophomore Kaylee Robinson finished 5th, with a time of 59.84. Destinee Henry followed, running a time of 1:03.45 and finishing 10th. With 3 top 10 finishes in the 100 meter dash, Berea had Khatriah Malik finish 6th (12.97), Cassandra McFadden finish 7th (13.00), and Alli Silas finish 10th (13.30). Also in the 100 meter dash were Zita Erez (15.02), Wendy Quanon (15.84), and Hajar Mouchtahi (16.70).

The Mountaineers also many athletes compete in the 800 meter dash. Delaney Williams came across the line at 2:27, finishing 9th. Abigail Schlenker ran 2:30 and ended in 13th place. Other finishers include Jenna Hughes (2:33), Erin Gonterman (2:37), Tylan Eastham (2:41), Ivanna Sabino (2:42), Sydney Shackelford (2:53), Jillian Kendall (2:54), and Brittany Ortiz-Perez (3:05).

In the 200 meter dash Khatriah Malik came in 6th and ran a time of 26.53. Cassandra McFadden came in 11th place and ran 27.58. Allison Dallman (30.10) and Kearstin Tingle (33.64) were other finishers. In the 5000 meter run, Berea had 2 point scorers. Junior Dove DeNigris ran 19:09 and earned 2nd place. Following her, sophomore Caitlyn Roberts crossed the line at 20:51 with a 7th place finish. Rachel Melstead finished in 11th place, running 21:43. Closing out for the running events on the track, the Mountaineers took 3rd in the 4x400 meter dash, running a time of 4:16.08. Members of this team include Kaylee Robinson, Alli Silas, Destinee Henry, and Abigail Schlenker.

In the field events, sophomore Maya Riddles threw hammer at a distance of 30.06 meters. Riddles also threw shot put at a distance of 9.95 meters. Clarissa Williams threw in shot put with a distance of 8.88 meters. Allison Dallman competed in high jump, and earned 4th placed with a height of 1.55 meters.

Next week the Mountaineers will travel to Louisville, KY and compete at Bellarmine University.
