Women's T&F Finish Third at DePauw Invite

Greencastle, IN.- Over the weekend the Mountaineers travelled to Indiana to compete in the DePauw Invitational. The women finished with a team total of 98 points, placing 3rd out of 9 teams.

Starting out the running events for the day was junior Ivanna Sabino competing in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Sabino finished 6th with a time of 12:26. In the 1500 meter race, junior Jamie Welch posted a strong 7th place finish in 5:01 while sophomore Tylan Eastham finished 18th (5:22) and junior Brittany Ortiz-Perez finished 26th (5:53). Senior Jenna Hughes competed in the 800 meter run, crossing the line in 2:37 and finishing 14th. Sabino and Eastham also raced the 800 meters where they finished 19th (2:44) and 20th (2:46). The Mountainners had numerous top ten finishes in the 5,000 meters where senior Dove DeNigris won the event in 19:23, freshman Mary Beth Melhuish placed 4th in 19:59, junior Hayley Clark finished 6th in 20:14, junior Caitlyn Roberts placed 8th in 20:31, and junior Rachel Melstead finished 10th in 20:38.

The Mountaineers had a very strong showing in the 100 meter dash with 3 top 5 finishes. Sophomore Khatirah Malik won the event in 12.83 seconds. Junior Kaylee Robinson crossed the line in 13.12 finishing 4th while freshman Jada Harper finished just behind in 5th with a time of 13.13. Malik also won the 200 meter dash in 25.78 seconds while Robinson placed 3rd in 26.52 and Harper placed 4th in 26.99. Robinson posted another top 5 performance in the 400 meter dash finishing 2nd in 1:00.62 while freshman Leta Heigley finished 4th in 1:01.34. Berea's 4x100 meter relay team finished in 1st place with a time of 49.53 seconds. In the 100 meter hurdles, sophomore Destinee Henry crossed the line in 17.23 seconds placing 8th while senior Kearstin Tingle finished 13th in 18.92. Henry also competed in the 400 meter hurdles where she placed 5th in 1:10.38.

In the long jump, Leta Heigly jumped 4.80 meters to place 12th while Destinee Henry placed 15th with a jump of 4.72 meters. Henry also finished 4th in the triple jump with a jump of 10.41 meters while freshman Mildred Goins jumped 9.56 meters to place 7th. In the throwing events, it was junior Maya Riddles representing Berea. Riddles finished 10th in the shot put throwing 9.65 meters and 14th in the hammer competition throwing 31.04 meters.

Next up the Mountaineers will travel to Danville, KY to compete in the Centre Twilight Meet on April 12th.
