Danville, KY - This Friday, the Mountaineers competed at Centre College's annual Centre Twilight meet. The women placed 4th out of 10 very competitive teams from the area.
Competing in the sprinting events, we had many top finishers. In the 100 meter dash, Khatriah Malik finished in second overall with her time of 12.72. Following directly after, Jada Harper had a 3rd place finish and ran 13.06. Alli Silas placed 17th with a time of 14.53. In the 200 meter dash, Malik scored 2nd place again and ran a time 26.23. Kaylee Robinson earned 4th place with a 26.87, followed by Harper in 5th with a time of 26.92. Silas placed 25th and ran 30.11. In the 400 meter dash, Robinson placed 3rd and ran a time of 1:01.18, followed by Leta Heigley in 13th place and a time of 1:05.52.
In the 800 meter dash Rachel Melstead finished in 8th place and ran a time of 2:33. Berea also had Mary Beth Melhuish place 10th (2:35), Jenna Hughes place 16th (2:38), Tylan Eastham (18th, 2:40), Katie Roach (24th, 2:47), and Alli Silas (26th, 2:48). In the 1500 meters run, Berea had 8 total finishers, led by Jamie Welch in 5th place with a time of 5:02. In 7th, Mary Beth Melhuish ran a time of 5:12, and following in 8th was Rachel Melstead running a 5:14. Tylan Eastham finished in 10th with a time of 5:24 and Jenna Hughes followed in 13th place running a time of 5:31. Other finishers included Saralisa Jackson (21, 5:55), Katie Roach (22, 5:55), Brittany Ortiz-Perez (23, 6:02). In the 5000 meter run Dove DeNigris earned second overall. She ran an impressive time of 18:32. Caitlyn Roberts followed in 7th place with a time of 20:06, and Bethany Bigler in 14th running a 21:02.
In the 100 meter hurdles, Destinee Henry finished in 5th and ran a time of 17.01. Kearstin Tingle followed in 13th place running 18.64. Also competing in the 400 meter hurdles was Destinee Henry who finished 2nd with a time of 1:08. Kearstin Tingle placed 11th and ran 1:17. In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Ivanna Sabino placed 7th and ran a time of 12:09.
In the field events, Leta Heighly placed 3rd in the long jump with her jump of 5.12 meters. Destinee Henry placed 8th with her jump of 4.78 meters. Destinee Henry also competed in triple jump and placed 1st. Her jump was marked at 10.65 meters. In the shotput, Maya Riddles placed 11th and threw 8.63 meters. Riddles also placed 11th in the hammer throw and threw a distance of 32.97.
Next week the Mountaineers will host the USA South Conference Championships on Thursday, April 18th and Friday, April 19th at home .
