Brown's 16 Kills Not Enough to Lead Mountaineers to Victory Over KCU

Berea, KY- The volleyball team returned to the Seabury Center on Senior Night this evening looking to send their seniors out with a win. Tonight's matchup was against the Kentucky Christian University Knights.

Berea was unable to gain any traction in the beginning of the match, as 11 attack errors allowed the Knights to take the first set by a score of 25-17. The second set was a different story for the Mountaineers as the team controlled the score for the set. Berea moved their lead to 21-17, forcing KCU to call a timeout. The return to the court saw the Knights battle back using a 4-1 run, forcing a Mountaineers break in the action. The ball continued to go back and forth between the teams until Berea pulled out the set victory 26-24. Senior Simone Brown aided the offensive attack with seven kills.

The momentum of the Mountaineers' victory would not carry over into the third set though, as KCU took a 2-1 advantage in the match, winning the set 25-13. The fourth set brought a tightly contested match to the forefront as Berea looked to extend the match to a fifth and deciding set. As the game went deep into the fourth, the scoreboard read a 20-20 tie. The ball did not fall in the favor of the Mountaineers after the score was knotted up, as the Knights walked out of the Seabury Center with a 3-1 match win, 25-23.

Brown led the team on the offensive end with 16 kills. The leader in assists was Claire Mueller, who finished with 28 for the game. On the defensive side, Bailie Parker led the way with digs, finishing with 16 while Isabelle Haverty finished with 4 block assists.

The team returns to the road for their next game, as they travel to Frankfort, KY to take on Kentucky State University. The match is this Friday, October 21st, with first serve scheduled for 7:00 PM.
