Lookout Mountain, GA- After going 1-1 in their home tri-match this past weekend, the volleyball team returned to the court tonight looking to add another conference win to their record. The contest took place on the road against the Covenant College Scots, a divisional opponent in the USA South.

The first set saw a close opening segment as a service ace by Alexandra Wilkins made the score 10-8 in favor of Covenant. The momentum shifted to the Scots side as they scored nine straight points to take a commanding 19-8 advantage, a lead the Mountaineers would be unable to come back from, losing the first set 25-10.

A six point streak for Covenant gave them a 6-0 lead in the beginning of the second set. Berea cut the deficit in half with a three point streak of their own which began with a kill from Isis Hill to make the score 6-3. After falling behind by five, a service ace from Kristin Barnes and a kill from Megan Voorhees brought the Mountaineers within three points of the lead, 12-9. The home Scots pushed their lead back out to six before another kill from Barnes along with a kill from Addie Bowman and an attack error from Covenant brought Berea back within four points to make the score 20-16. The offensive flow ended for the Mountaineers though as the Scots scored the next five points to win the set 25-16.

The stifled offense continued for Berea in the third set as Covenant scored six of the first eight points to lead 6-2. Five consecutive points by the Scots put them ahead by nine points, a deficit the Mountaineers could not overcome as they fell in the set 25-16, losing the match 3-0. Hill led the team in kills with six while Wilkins aided the offense with 14 assists. Barnes led the team defensively with eight digs to go along with a block solo from Hill.

Berea will go back to the state of Georgia for their next matches on Saturday, traveling to the city of Decatur to take on two West division teams in a USA South tri-match. The team will face the host Agnes Scott College in their first match at 12:00 PM followed by a match with the other participant, LaGrange College, at 2:00 PM.
