Midway, KY. – Midway University defeated Berea College women's volleyball team in three straight sets during their Thursday match-up at Marshall Gymnasium.

The first set was the toughest during the match. The Eagles pulled out to an early lead, but the Mountaineers battled back for a 9-9 tie. Midway handled the next five points before Berea got within one with a 14-13 score. The Eagles took advantage of some forced errors on the Mountaineer side to get to set point, 24-16. Berea two the next three points, but a service error marked the set win for Midway.

The second set was all Midway from the start to finish with a 25-12 score. The final set was more competitive on both sides of the net with the teams going back-and-forth. The Mountaineers had the lead twice during the set, but the Eagles took control with five straight points and didn't look back to take the match win with a score of 25-16 in the third set.

Katherine Gonterman and Addie Bowman finished with four kills, while Kristin Barnes and Hannah Headrick tallying three each. Jonesy McGregor handed out six assists and made four digs. Headrick led the defense with nine digs and Barnes tacked on eight with Gonterman adding six.

Up next, Berea travels to Hanover College for matches with Franklin College Saturday at 10 a.m. followed by a match with the Panthers at 12 p.m.
