Volleyball Starts Season with Two 3-0 Losses

MARIETTA, Ohio – Sophomore Carolina Robles recorded 19 kills and 21 digs in day 1 of the River City Classic hosted by Marietta College, as the Mountaineers lost both games to Mt. Saint Joseph University and Marietta College 3-0.

Sophomore Allana Knowles also registered 17 kills and 13 digs for the day for the Mountaineers as Knowles and Robles combined for over 60% of the kills for the Mountaineers for day 1 of the River City Classic.

Mountaineers Drop Close Opening Match to the Lions

The Mountaineers kept the Lions close throughout the 3 sets in the opening match of the River City Classic with scores of 25-18, 25-22, and 25-23. In this game, the Mountaineers were led by sophomore Carolina Robles who had 11 kills and 14 digs, and sophomore Allana Knowles also added 8 kills and 9 digs.

The Mountaineers were out-killed 40-32 by the Lions. They were also out-assisted 38-31 and out-aced 8-5, but had the same amount of digs (38) and had less errors than the lions 16-14.

Mountaineers Loses to Marietta in Second Match

The Mountaineers lost to Marietta College in the second match of the day in straight sets, 25-14, 25-19, and 25-15. The Mountaineers were led by sophomore Allana Knowles, who had 8 kills and 4 digs. Sophomore Carolina Robles also had 8 kills and 7 digs, and sophomore Hannah Headrick also recorded 4 kills and 2 service aces.

The Mountaineers were out-killed 43-23 by the Pioneers. They were also out-assisted 40-19, out-dug 38-23, and were aced 11 times.

 

The Mountaineers will be back in action tomorrow at 10 am to start the second day of the River City Classic.
