Volleyball Splits Second Day of River City Classic

BEREA, KY.-   The Berea College Volleyball team won their first game of the season against Hood College in the 2nd day of the River City Classic. They won a thrilling 3-2 contest, which saw sophomore Allana Knowles set a program record with 22 kills in a single match. Freshman Adrienne Roberts also set a program record as well, recording 50 assists in a single game. The second match of the day against Franciscan University also went into 5 sets, however this time the Mountaineers lost the match. Mountaineers showed grit in this match, battling from a 2-0 deficit to tie it up 2-2, but fell in the final set 15-9.

Berea Volleyball Wins First Match Under Harris

The Mountaineers and Coach Ashley Harris won their first game of the year in an exciting back and forth game against Hood College. Both teams won every other set to take the game into the 5th set, where the Mountaineers defeated Hood College 15-9. The Mountaineers in this game were led by sophomore Carolina Robles, who had 17 kills and 31 digs, sophomore Allana Knowles who set a program record with 23 kills and added 23 digs, and freshman Adrienne Roberts who also set a program record with 50 assists. The Mountaineers out-performed their opponents in multiple statistical categories in kills, digs, and assists, but made more errors than Hood College.

Berea falls to Franciscan University in 5-set thriller

The Mountaineers in the 2nd match of day 2 in the River City Classic again went into 5 sets, but this time falling to Franciscan, 3-2. This match showed the toughness of the Mountaineers as they were down 2-0 going into the final set. However, the Mountaineers ultimately lost in the final set 15-9 to go 1-3 overall in the River City Classic.

The Mountaineers were led by sophomore Allana Knowles with 11 kills, sophomore Hannah Headrick with 7 kills, senior Bailie Parker with 25 digs, and freshman Adrienne Roberts with 46 assists.

 

The Mountaineers will be back in action Saturday, Setempber 7th in a tri-match at Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, Georgia to start their conference play.
