Berea Sweeps Two Conference Opponents

Berea College (7-9) sweeps two conference opponents

vs. Piedmont (5-11) 25-22, 25-14, 25-19

vs. Brevard (0-16) 30-28, 25-18, 27-25

 

The Berea College women's volleyball team hosted a quad match featuring conference opponents, Brevard College, Piedmont College, and Maryville College. Berea walked away with mot only two victories, but two sweeps of conference rivals Piedmont and Brevard.

Piedmont kicked off the day of volleyball against the Mountaineers. The women started hot and edged out a gritty 3 point victory in the first set. The Mountaineers whipped up on the lions in set 2, and pushed the pace and tempo to jump to a large margin. Berea added to the advantage with a set 2 victory, winning 25-14. With Piedmont on their heels, Berea kept up the attack. Carolina Robles took it upon herself with 14 kills to finish of the Lions in 3 games. The Mountaineers quest for victory succeeded with a match-ending 25-19 victory.

The momentum propelled the Mountaineers towards another victory to wrap up the day. Brevard College came into the Seabury Center winless on the season and were thirsty for the first win. They surprised Berea by coming out strong and catching the Mountaineers off guard. Berea Responded and made some adjustments to settle back into Mountaineer volleyball. With two extended sets, the Mountaineers were once again able to come up with a sweep, completing the historic day.

The Mountaineers will be back in volleyball action Wednesday, on the road at Maryville College. The contest will start at 7:00pm.
