Berea Women 3rd at Home Cross Country Meet

Berea, KY – The Women's Cross Country team got a chance to compete at home this weekend in the Berea College Beverly Harkleroad Invitational.  The Mountaineers finished 3rd out of 11 teams competing just behind Centre in 2nd and the meet champion Tennessee Wesleyan College.  Berea finished ahead of Lindsey Wilson, Cumberland (Tenn), Bryan, Georgetown, Pikeville, Union (Ky), West Virginia State and Kentucky State.

The Berea College course is a true cross country course with lots of rolling hills, trails and even two creek crossings.  The Mountaineers covered the course in a blistering team average of 21:21.  The individual champion was Tennessee Wesleyan's Robbiccaa Williams running a very impressive time of 18:57.  Leading the way for Berea once again was freshman Dove DeNigris in 7th with a time of 20:24.  She was followed by Gabriella Sabino in 18th (21:19), Mercy Kershner in 23rd (21:34), Gabrielle Sawyer in 24th (21:37) and Erin Gonterman in 31st (21:54).

Other finishers for the Mountaineers included freshman Jenna Hughes in 38th (22:21), Olamide Adejumo in 48th (23:08), Megan Hale in 61st (24:23), Sydney Kyker in 67th (24:42), Asia Foster in 71st 25:24 and Brena Griffin in 90th (30:20).

"The women ran very well on their home course and so many runners had season or lifetime bests today." Said Head Coach Shawn Jakubowski.  "Each week this team is improving, and we have such a tight pack that we never know who will run in what position each week.  I am very proud of these women and each week I look forward to watching all their hard work pay off in their races."

The Men and Women will be back in action on October 3 at the Greater Louisville Classic hosted by the University of Louisville.
