Louisville, KY – The Berea College women's cross country team competed at the Greater Louisville Classic this past weekend in the NCAA Division III Pre-Nationals race. Several of the top NCAA Division III programs traveled to Louisville to preview the 6k course that would serve as the 2016-17 NCAA DIII National Championship course. In a large field of over 300 runners and 39 teams the Mountaineers finished a solid 16th place overall.
This was the first 6k for Berea this year and for many of the runners it was their first 6k ever. Berea averaged 24:09 for the 8k course and put up a 2:00:47 team time. Dove DeNigris lead the way for the Mountaineers crossing the line in 65th place with a time of 23:37. Senior Gabriella Sabino followed shortly after finishing 84th with a time of 23:45. The next four runners to cross the line for the Mountaineers were freshman making their debut in the 6k. First was Jamie Welch with a 98th place finish and a time of 24:03. Ivanna Sabino was the fourth Mountaineers to cross the line finishing in 133rd and a time of 24:39. Hayley Clark and Caitlyn Roberts were the next two Mountaineers across the line finishing 149th (24:51) and 165th (25:03). Sophomore Jenna Hughes was the 7th Mountaineer to finish crossing the line in 191st place with a time of 25:35.
Other finishers for Berea included Erin Gonterman finishing 198th (25:44), Delaney Williams in 222nd (26:15), Megan Hale 248th (27:14), Olamide Adejuma 249th (27:15), Riley Lanham 292nd (29:28), Kendra Humphrey 300th (30:35), Meghan Kramer 306th (31:05) and Monica Galic in 307th (31:07).
Berea will take a weekend off before heading to Wilmington, OH to compete in the #JennaStrong Fall Classic on Friday, October 14th. The women's race will start at 4:30pm with the men to follow at 5:15pm.
