Mountaineers Run Record Breaking Race at #JennaStrong Fall Classic

Wilmington, OH – The Berea College women's cross country team traveled to Wilmington College to compete in the #JennaStrong Fall Classic. Running against 38 teams from 6 different states, The women ended with a 6th place finish. The 5k course earned the women many PR's and helped the women set two school records that include fastest team average (19:26) as well as fasted total team time (1:37.10).

Overall the top five Berea runners all ran personal bests and out of the 14 competing runners 10 earned PR's in the 5k.  Dove DeNigris led the way for the Mountaineer's, placing 18th and crossed the finish line at 18:45.7. Freshman Jamie Welch followed shortly after finishing 28th with a time of 19:05.5 The Sabino sisters were next to cross the finish line for the Mountaineers with freshman Ivanna Sabino finishing in 48th place with a time of 19:30.2 followed closely behind by senior Gabriella Sabino in 53rd place with a time of 19:38.2. The fifth runner to cross the line was freshman Delaney Williams finishing 85th (20:09.4). Sophomore Erin Gonterman finished 111th (20:32.4) and freshman Caitlyn Roberts finished 128th (20:52.7).

Other finishers for Berea included Sydney Kyker 136th (20:57.2), Megan Hale 157th (21:10.0), Jenna Hughes 158th (21:10.1), Hayley Clark 187th (21:34.6), Olamide Adejuma 209th (21:55.0), Kendra Humphry 265th (23:06.2), and Esther Omolola 348th (28:55.1).

"Coming in we knew we were ready to run a big race and the women came in and ran fantastic," said Head Coach Shawn Jakubowski.  "This was a huge confidence boost heading into Sand Shark and USCAA Nationals.  We are right where we need to be for this time of the season and I look forward to seeing what we can do as we prepare for the postseason."

Berea will head to the Sand Shark Invitational in Hardeeville, SC on Saturday, October 22nd.  The men's race will start at 9:00am with the women to follow at 9:45am.
