Women's Cross Country Takes Home Second Place in Jamboree

Berea, KY- Berea and Center College hosted the annual jamboree women's two mile race as the season opener for both colleges. The Berea women's team placed second overall with a score of 61 points.

Abby Schlenker was the first Berea runner to cross the finish line, placing sixth overall. She ran the two mile race in 12:36. Dove DeNigris followed Schlenker as the second Berea runner with an overall 11th place finish with a time of 12:50. Jamie Welch, third Berea runner, took 12th place and had a competitive race against DeNigris finishing just six seconds after. Contributing to the Mountaineers' overall score, Leta Heigley took 17th place overall (13:24), Mary Beth Mellhuish, 21st (13:35), Hayley Clark 25th (13:44), and Rachel Malstead, 28th (13:49).

Centre College placed first to win the Berea/Centre Jamboree. Berea placed second and Tennessee Wesleyan rounded out the top three. Berea had six runners finish in the top 25 individual scoring, two of them being freshman.   

The next meet, the Mike and Mary Kay Invitational, is another home meet that will take place Saturday, September 15th, in Berea.
