Berea, KY – The 2nd annual Mike and Mary Kay Invitational was held Saturday at Berea College's home course. The invitational was named for Coach Mike Johnson, former head coach for the men's and women's cross country teams, and his wife. The Berea women's cross country team took home second place in the 5k race, just 20 points behind the first place team Covenant College.
Senior Dove DeNigris was the first Berea runner to cross the finish line in the race with a time of 20:34 and a fourth place finish. Abby Schlenker was the second Mountaineer for fifth overall, with a final time of 20:39, while Jamie Welch crossed at 20:40. Also contributing times for the Mountaineers was Rachel Malstead (21:45), Leta Heigley, (22:10), Mary Beth Mellhuish (22:30), and Caitlyn Roberts (22:42).
The next meet will be the Greater Louisville Classic, one of the largest meets in the US, on Saturday, September 29th, in Louisville, Ky.
