Women's XC Finish 3rd in Invitational

BEREA, KY., – The 3rd annual Mike and Mary Kay Invitational was held Saturday at Berea College's home course on Alumni Fields. The invitational was named for Coach Mike Johnson, former head coach for the men's and women's cross country teams, and his wife. The Berea women's cross country team took home third overall.

Senior Jamie Welch was the first Berea runner to cross the finish with a time of 19:45 and a fourth place finish. Following Welch, senior Rachel Melstead crossed with a time of 20:44 and a 17th place finish. Directly behind her in 18th and 19th place, sophomore Mary Beth Mellhuish and senior Ivanna Sabino finished with times of 20:59 and 21:06. Senior Hayley Clark finished with a time of 21:40, placing 27th. Other finishers for Berea College include Caitlyn Roberts (31st, 21:44), Bethany Bigler (38th, 22:13), Jenna Hughes (41st, 22:40), Tylan Eastham (45th, 22:49), Diana Angel Espinoza (49th, 24:14), and Brittany Ortiz-Perez (61st, 24:26).

The Mountaineers ran a 20:51 average 5k time.

The next meet will be pre-nationals, The Greater Louisville Classic, on Saturday, October 5th, in Louisville, Ky.
