Berea, KY. – The Berea College men's basketball team were eliminated from the post-season conference tournament on senior day with a 77-68 loss to the Huntingdon Hawks. The Hawks were led by Kyante Pines who finished with 16 points and 8 rebounds.
The Mountaineers fell behind early in the first half and found themselves trailing by as many as 10 early in the first half. Berea fought back and won the rebounding and defensive battle in the second part of the first half. The Mountaineers pulled down 10 offensive rebounds in the first half and protected the ball by only turning the ball over 3 times. This helped the Mountaineers go into the locker room with a 33-30 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Mountaineers could not seem to buy a bucket while the Hawks shot the lights out of the gym. Berea shot 40 percent from the field and less than 17 percent from beyond the arc and Huntingdon shot just shy of 50 percent from both three and the field. The Mountaineers had a chance to work their way back into the game with free throws but struggled from the line only shooting 47 percent as a team. The Hawks capitalized on the missed free throws and walked away with a 77-68 win over the Mountaineers.
The Mountaineers still have a chance at a winning record and will finish the season with two games on the road. Berea will travel to Georgia on Wednesday, February 13 to take on the Covenant College Scots at 7:30 PM.
